Man this Sugar Lake series has got me feeling it all! I totally went into this book not liking Eli AT ALL! From that last book where he was a side character (but not a whole lot since he really didn't spend much time with his family) he made himself really unlikable to me. But given what I had learned about him and Becca in the book I really needed to know what happened with them.... so here I am.
The characters in this series are very FRUSTRATINGLY real! They could very much be your next door neighbors! Dealing with the same type of real life issues that we all see on a daily basis. So the stories have hit me in the gut. I kept listening, hoping that Eli would do or say something to make me like him..... and it was not there. Even when in his own POV the way that he looked at things, reacted to situations and things he said had me grinding my teeth. It literally was not until the last couple of chapters that I was in a place where I was ok with him. I never really got to like him. Honestly the only thing I really liked about him was Becca. How he was toward her (eventually) was what had me not wanting to cut him off all together! But I do think that he has potential to get better, which I am sure I will get to see a bit more of in the following stories.
Becca really only made me mad with her not wanting to tell Alina about her relationship with Eli. I understood her reasoning at first. But then to keep it from her when she was asking point blank, that was when I got mad about it. I am a huge fan of this book and I can not wait to get to the next one! The narration again took some getting used to (for me since I don't hear a lot of duet narration), but all the feelings were there and I was totally emersed in the story.
